I've remembered what awe feels like these past few weeks: Artemis, Project Hail Mary, Reid Wiseman's mobile phone video of the Earthset...it's helping me remember what alignment feels like, almost like a compass pointing me to my True North. Looking forward to reading more from you when the holidays are here.
Yes, honestly the Earthset is just mind-blowing. I woke my daughter up early to watch it, and she just burst into tears. Feels like we all need a bit of awe right now.
Yes! That point was reinforced by Jim Lovell during the Apollo 8 ("the vast lonliness up here of the moon is awe inspiring, and it makes you realize just what you have back on Earth. The Earth from here is a grand oasis...", and most recently by Victor Glover on Artemis 2 ("In all of this vast emptiness, in what can feel like nothing, we have this thing we call the universe. And within it, you have this oasis—this beautiful place where we get to exist together."). Thanks for listening MB🤗
Ray, thank you for sharing these insights, creative excursions, your poetry experience. That we're already in outer space...so obvious but revelatory, too. Your laddering students is priceless, all flourishing together on this beautiful oasis.
That moment about already being in outer space felt simple, but it landed deeper than I expected. And the “laddering” with students is starting to feel like the real work. Figuring it out together, not alone.
